The Perfect Getaway: Park City

I’m currently in Park City enjoying the beautiful mountains and shops with my daughter, Hannah.  We are here for a friend’s bat mitzvah and decided to stop into visit one of our retail partners, a breathtaking luxury boutique hotel in Park City, Utah, called the Washington School House Hotel.

The Washington School House is an iconic historic landmark and after the completion of a total interior renovation, this fabulously preserved 1889 limestone gem reopened in December 2011. The concept? To provide a level of chic sophistication to a discerning traveler that is outside the box. We were fortunate to meet Jessica, the general manager & Haley, front desk. Jessica gave us a view of one of their lovely 2 story king rooms and everything about this boutique hotel of 12 special rooms is lovely, curated and elegant.

You can get all the specifics on the hotel on their website link but some of my favorite highlights included the gorgeous artwork throughout, the found opera mirror from France above the mantle in the gathering room, and the meticulous attention to detail in designing and decorating this gem in Park City. I look forward to coming back and indulging in this lovely hotel in the future and I highly recommend you come for a visit!

Dreaming of Summer: Introducing the New Sea Salt Candle!

This warm weather makes me so happy but I have to say, it already has me dreaming of summer. I can’t wait for a little family summer getaway and am already starting to make plans for where we’ll go. In honor of warmer days and exciting summer adventures, I’d like to introduce to you our newest scent, Sea Salt!

Inspired by our summer journey to Saint Cyr sur Mer, a sleepy, coastal town in the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur region in southeastern France. We chartered a boat and took to the turquoise waters, enveloped by the smell of salty air and inspired by the way natural salts were infused in coastal delicacies, fresh from the sea like mussels & the region’s infamous bouillabaisse. Invigorating.

I love to have Sea Salt lit while I reminisce about all the fun times we had in France, taking in all the lovely scenery and scents of Saint Cyr sur Mer. What kinds of summer getaways are you dreaming about?

Stock up now and bring the ocean home to you, available at Terrain!

New Scent for Spring: Wild Honeysuckle

Happy spring! With March 20th ringing in the official start of the new season, say hello to sunshine, spring flowers, and longer days. In honor of spring, I’m excited to introduce to you our newest scent of the season: Wild Honeysuckle!

Inspired by childhood memories of searching for a single dewdrop at the center of fresh flowers under the warmth of the Texan sun. Sweet honeysuckle nectar mingles with leafy vines and a hint of mandarin and musk. Energizing.

Doesn’t it sound lovely? I like to have Wild Honeysuckle lit in the background to give me an extra boost of energy while I get myself ready in the morning. You can get yours here from Terrain, a terrific spot to find all things home, garden, and beauty. When do you feel most energized?

Celebrating St. Paddy’s Day

We’re getting ready for St. Paddy’s Day festivities and I can’t wait to celebrate with family and friends. To get in the spirit, we’ll light our Garden Mint candle and the whole family will help bake some delicious Irish Soda Bread. This year, I think we’ll try a new recipe found over on Rachel Ray:

Cranberry Irish Soda Bread with Lime Glaze

What you’ll need:

  • 1 1/3 cups plus 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, chilled and cut into cubes
  • 1 cup dried cranberries
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • Grated peel and juice of 1 lime

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees . Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 1/3 cups milk and the lemon juice; let sit at room temperature for 10 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda and salt. Rub in the butter until coarse crumbs form, about 3 minutes. Stir in the cranberries.
  3. Beat the egg into the milk mixture; stir into the flour mixture until just combined. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead until it just comes together; form into an 8-inch round and place on the prepared baking sheet. Using a knife, score a 1/2-inch-deep “X” in the round. Bake until dark golden and crusty, 25 to 30 minutes. Transfer to a rack to cool completely.
  4. Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, combine the confectioners’ sugar, lime peel, lime juice and the remaining 1 tablespoon milk. Drizzle the cooled soda bread with the lime glaze.

(6 servings)

How yummy does that sound?

Tell me, what St. Paddy’s Day traditions do you usually look forward to?

Hoosiers helping Hoosiers

As many of you know, Linnea’s Lights is proudly based in Indiana and with last week’s terrible tornado, we’re grateful to have made it through the storm. It’s been humbling to see Hoosiers helping Hoosiers here in our great state.

We thought we’d take a moment to encourage people to donate via the American Red Cross tornado relief fund if you can. The people in the southern part of the state need all the help, support and prayers they can get:

Thank you for all of your support! Sending love and keeping those affected in our thoughts.
