I’ve been feeling a ton of Indiana love with Spring in the air, and I recently stumbled across this sweet “Smiling Indiana” poster from a local company called United State of Indiana. It really sums things up nicely, doesn’t it?

Smile. You’re home.

The poster is available here for a very reasonable $15 if you’re feeling the Hoosier love too.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Announcing our new Peony Candle for Spring 2013!

Each spring the earth comes alive again, blossoms and green abound. To celebrate the season of renewal, we’re thrilled about our newest releases. First up is our new Peony candle, inspired by my favorite flower.

Timeless, lush & creamy peony petals, green stems & wildflowers, Indiana’s state flower takes center stage, with notes inspired by the lush blooms of a perennial favorite. Cultivated in Asia for thousands of years, prized for its vivid beauty and warm floral scent, the peony is regarded as a symbol of happiness and prosperity. In the Middle Ages, Peony seeds were swallowed whole to ward off bad dreams and the flower is still used today in alternative medicine. Awaken your inner healer and allow the spacious aroma of freshly cut peony to soothe the senses.

Hoosiers helping Hoosiers

As many of you know, Linnea’s Lights is proudly based in Indiana and with last week’s terrible tornado, we’re grateful to have made it through the storm. It’s been humbling to see Hoosiers helping Hoosiers here in our great state.

We thought we’d take a moment to encourage people to donate via the American Red Cross tornado relief fund if you can. The people in the southern part of the state need all the help, support and prayers they can get:

Thank you for all of your support! Sending love and keeping those affected in our thoughts.

Fall Weekend Midwest Getaway Idea

The changing seasons always make me feel ready for a new adventure and a weekend trip this Fall sounds just perfect! Keeping it short and sweet is key, with the kids in school and so much holiday prep happening in the studio. Some friends recently recommended Nappanee, Indiana, settled on the edge of north-central Indiana’s Amish Country, and I’m thinking a family getaway is in order.

Nappanee has a philosophy centered on the phrase “Embrace the Pace”, which I just love. Horse-drawn wagons are a common sight, which the kids will get a kick out of, while Nappanee’s downtown has shops and restaurants housed in historic buildings. Family-owned shops are in abundance too, which is always refreshing and Amish Country and the free Quilt Gardens Tour are two more big draws to the region.

While we’re there and looking to break from Amish tradition, I’ve heard good things about La Fogata. Mexican food will be perfect for lunch or dinner and its colorful atmosphere is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Indiana State Fair

Being from Indiana, the annual state fair is something the family looks forward to year-round. Unfortunately, as I’m sure you’ve all heard by now, this weekend the festivities took a scary turn with the tragic events that unfolded on Saturday evening. Our sincerest thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.

In light of these recent events, it’s more important than ever to show your Indiana pride. The fair’s calendar of events has been adjusted, but will be going strong through August 21, and I hope you can make it out.

This year’s event took on special meaning for the Linnea’s Lights team in particular as we helped celebrate the year of the soybean! A key ingredient in our candles, we combine natural soy wax, lead-free cotton candlewicks, pure essences and fine fragrances to create clean burning, perfectly scented and highly aromatic candles. Today, farmers in more than 30 states grow soybeans, making soybeans the United States’ second largest crop in cash sales and the No. 1 value crop export. Find out more fun facts and support your local farmers at the fair. Be safe and we’ll see you there!
